Sadness is when you know someone dear will die
When you can see it in their face and in their eye
Sadness is when you can see their pride obstruct
When you can see that they're about to self-destruct

Sadness is when you can see the frailty of their day
When you can see it in their actions; in every way
Sadness is when you know their every step is in pain
When you can see that there is no way they can remain

Sadness is when too many emotions become dumbfounded
When you yourself feel the weights of life compounded
Sadness is when you have a defined lack of choice
When you can hear death creeping though someone's voice

Sadness is when you know in a few moments they'll fail
When you know this person's soul will soon set sail
Sadness is when they deny their own mortality
When you know there will be one more fatality

Sadness is when you see their remaining time cut short
When you know the treatments are of the horrible sort
Sadness is when you know someone dear will die
When you can see it in their face and in their eye
Sadness is watching someone you care about die a little more every day yet when you ask them how they feel it's always "oh I'm fine".

so sad, yet so beautiful

the strangest thing is that when I read this poem I don't think about sadness
I think about love, friendship and caring for each other

ah this piece honestly moved me like no other

i watched my dad die of cancer for 3 years.
and his last week was the hardest, the docs gave him a 'used by date' but he defied that then passed.

very amazing piece, very amazing well done

Ironic how I gravitate toward this before any of your other works. This I understood to the best of my ability. Knowing me; I probably looked too deep into it. I'm so wrapped up in my own depression that I probably don't notice other people who care about me. But then again; nobody says anything. More people need to get the message that you're sending here. If somebody you cared for was drowning, you'd save them. Why not do something even simpler and talk to somebody who's feeling down? I just can't get my head around people sometimes. Here I go looking into this too deeply. Perhaps you literally meant death in someone's voice. But I tried to understand this anyway; regardless if I got it right or not.

What you take from my work only adds to it's depth and I appreciate every word you say.

someone hand me a tissue.PLEASE!....i wasnt able to read all of it as i started crying.......few writers are able to move a person to such lengths. the first two paragraphs reminded me so much of my grandmother who passed away in november of a form of cancer. it was so hard for me to see her in such pain and knowing what was to come........now wheres that damn tissue
